I started this business when I was pregnant with my first baby, and I truly feel like as I've grown as a person & a mother, my values as a photographer have grown alongside that. I used to stress SO much about getting the 'perfect' family photo for clients. You know the one. Everyone is dressed to the nines, smiling at the camera. Not a hair out of place. And those photos are special, I agree. But that is not where my heart is, and I'm learning that when I shoot for feeling--that's when the magic really happens. That perfect photo is not what I'll be chasing in our session together.
I think of myself now....who I am as a mother, and what I want to look back and remember when I blink and my kids are grown. We are not a picture perfect family. My girls haven't worn matching socks since birth and name brands mean nothing to me. The last time I bought an expensive outfit for my daughter to be photographed in, she dug her heels in on wearing her purple sparkly Walmart leggings underneath. This is who we are. And this is also what I've prayed for so long. I hope you can relate. I hope that you, too, want to look at a photo and ache with how much you love these people, purple heart leggings and all.
