Here are some frequently asked questions and things you'll need to know before our in-home newborn session!
How soon should after birth should we schedule the photos?
There is no wrong time! Lots will say around 7-10 days after birth, but I've taken them even at 4 weeks! They change so much in those first few weeks, so in my opinion, any day in there is worth freezing in time. ;) We will look at your due date and pencil in a few dates around there. After your baby is born, you can reach out and we will confirm our date and time!
What if my house doesn't have great lighting?
This is just fine! I do use natural light, so we will be finding all the nooks in your home with great sunlight flooding in! An important thing to note: this may mean that your photos may be in different spots in your home than you were originally picturing. If your living room doesn't get much lighting, we likely won't be in there much if at all. I promise you we will find the light and make magic together!
What time of day is best for in-home photos?
I schedule all in-home newborn sessions in the morning, typically around 9am (we can adjust as needed). This is a great time for sunlight to come in! As you've probably gathered, sunlight is KEY for these in-home newborn sessions. Because of this, if we are scheduled on a particularly cloudy/rainy morning, I will most likely reschedule for a morning with sunlight. I promise, you'll be glad we did!
What can I expect during our session?
After bringing your newborn home, I know things are crazy and chaotic! Our session will be laid-back with zero rush. I usually block off about 2 hours for the session to use if we need. We will go with your baby's schedule..taking breaks for diaper changes and feedings and all the snuggles. There's enough to stress about during this time and I don't want your session to be added to that list! :)
What to wear?
First and foremost, wear what is comfortable. I specifically remember trying to squeeze into jeans a week after giving birth, and it just wasn't for me. Make sure you are comfortable! I want you to not only love looking back at these photos, but I want you to enjoy our session together while in it. :)
Color-wise, I always suggest neutrals/clothing items without too many busy prints. Keeping it simple for newborn is perfect! Simple onesie, gown, etc. works great. Timeless and classic!
